Two courses of action are used in treating osteoporosis. They consist of intensifying the creation of new bone tissue cells or in reducing their loss. Thanks to their comprehensive effect, one obtains mutual supplementation of the properties of both groups of medication.
Medications from the first group, which stimulate the reconstruction of bones, include calcium medications, vitamin D and recombinant parathyroid hormone (namely teriparatide) available with a prescription. Medications, which block the bone tissue destroying cells include: estrogens (female sex hormones), calcitonin and bisphosphonates (among others, alendronate, pamidronate), also available with a prescription.
Due to the fact that osteoporosis therapy should last for life, you have to make sure that it is consistently applied.
