Firstly, ensure you moisten the throat appropriately. Pain intensifies when the throat’s mucous membrane is irritated and dry. Drink approx. 3 liters of liquids daily (water, juice or fruit tea) in order to restore the appropriate moisture level to the throat's mucous membrane. Also, a humidifier or a bowl of water next to a radiator will prove useful in fighting the problem of dry air.
Secondly, try gargling. A solution of salt dissolved in warm water or a sage brew will have an antibacterial effect and alleviate a sore throat.
If you feel a tickly throat, try using onion syrup. You can prepare this on your own. Slice an onion finely, sprinkle it with sugar and leave it for an hour until the onion produces juice. The onion syrup will effectively alleviate the symptoms of an irritated throat and quickly give relief.
When you are pregnant you can accelerate treatment of a sore throat by drinking milk with honey and eating fresh garlic. Warm tea with raspberry juice, an invaluable source of vitamin C, will also help you quickly fight a throat infection.
If pain from a sore throat intensifies and a fever or other symptoms of the common cold appear, consult a physician. Remember that not all medications for the common cold are safe for you and your baby. So before using even well-known remedies, read the leaflet and consult a pharmacist or a physician.
