It is extremely important to start treating rhinitis as soon as possible. When you have watery rhinitis or a runny nose, try using fresh garlic and onion. They contain phytoncides - substances with anti-bacterial properties.
Vitamin C is also an ally in the fight against rhinitis. Vitamin C strengthens the body’s natural defence mechanisms. Remember that numerous vegetables and fruit are a valuable source of easily digestible vitamin C.
When you have persistent rhinitis during pregnancy you can also use sea salt solutions which clean the mucous membrane from allergens and mechanical pollution while at the same time moisturising it and enabling freer breathing.
Marjoram ointment for lubricating the nasal area will also help fight rhinitis. The ointment has an anti-inflammatory and germicidal effect and fights the cause of the unpleasant condition.
Remember that it is inadvisable to use nasal drops for rhinitis containing xylometazoline and oxymetazoline both during pregnancy and when breastfeeding. Preparations, usually lozenges, based on pseudoephedrine are also inadvisable for a mother-to-be due to the risk of birth defects.
