Skin, food and inhalant allergies - types and the most frequent symptoms

Autoimmune diseases (allergies also belong to this group) can affect the whole body. Different allergens can cause different kinds of allergies with symptoms ranging from issues with the digestive system, respiratory system or the skin.
Skin allergies affect the body’s biggest organ: the skin. Allergens causing skin allergies can be extraneous (substances in direct contact with the skin: e.g. cosmetics, metals, household cleaning products, latex), internal – food allergens (e.g. coming from fruit, vegetables, proteins) or inhalant (e.g. plant pollens).
Skin allergies – types and symptoms:
atopic dermatitis – chronic inflammation with dry, peeling and itchy skin,
contact allergy – appears in the place where the skin has had contact with an allergic substance. It can take the form of an itchy rash, blisters, erythema,
urticaria – itchy hives, oedema, redness.
Food allergies appear when allergens (substances causing immune reaction)enter the body through food.
Food allergy – the most frequent allergens are: milk proteins, egg white, plant proteins, fruit (e.g. strawberries), monosodium glutamate.
Food allergy – symptoms:
skin symptoms: rash, oedema,
flatulence, colic, stomach ache, biliousness, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation,
breathlessness, general malaise, headache.
Inhalant allergy – the kind of allergy in which allergens get to the body via inhaled air. Inhalant allergens include plant pollens, house dust mites, mould endospores, domestic animal hair.
Inhalant allergy – symptoms:
asthma, fits of tiring coughing, breathlessness
rhinitis, fits of sneezing, itchy nose
epiphora, itchy eyes
