Małgorzata Kruk (MPharm)Firstly, take care of your immune system throughout the whole year. Use medications that strengthen immunity like foods containing omega-3 acids, inulin, beta-glucan. Honey also has a beneficial effect on immune system function.
Secondly, take care of your diet, especially when it comes to consuming the appropriate quantity of fruit and vegetables. These are an invaluable source of easily digestible vitamins.
If you often catch infections of the upper respiratory tract in the autumn and winter seasonal period, regularly moisten your throat by drinking approx. 3 liters of liquids daily. Remember to humidify the air as dry air irritates the throat and can contribute to painful infections.
Effective prevention of throat inflammation also includes regular gargling of the throat with a solution of salt or with a sage brew. Antibacterial rinses will help fight bacteria that attack the throat's mucous membrane.
Protect your throat against large temperature fluctuations. Avoid consuming hot and cold food or liquids together over a short period of time in order to effectively prevent a sore throat.
Remember that physical activity is also your ally. Even if it is cold put on several layers of clothes, a scarf and a cap and go for a walk outside. As a result, you will strengthen your immune system, get more oxygen flowing through your body and feel much better.
