A perfect home remedy treatment for rhinitis is humidifying the nasal mucous membrane. An air humidifier, a bowl of water next to a radiator and rinsing the nose with a solution of salt (a teaspoon of salt in a glass of boiled water) will allow you to fluidize the secretion, helping to clear the nose and making breathing easier.
Inhalations will also bring relief in breathing. Just add several drops of essential oils to a bowl of hot water (pine oil, eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil) Such inhalations will warm up the nasal sinuses, moisten the nasal mucous membrane and will allow you to breathe freely. Remember that asthmatics and young children cannot use inhalations.
The following may prove helpful in treating rhinitis: garlic, honey, raspberry syrup and lemon. Garlic and honey will have an antibacterial effect and will strengthen the body’s immunity. On the other hand, raspberry syrup and lemon are an excellent source of easily digestible vitamin C which shortens the duration of autumnal infections of the upper respiratory tract.
If at all possible, stay at home for the first three days of the infection. Rest will bring your body the strength to fight the infection and restore your spirits.
