Pneumonia is a very serious infection of the lower respiratory tract. In most cases where infection occurs outside of hospital, it is caused by bacteria (most often, pneumococcus – Staphylococcus pneumonia), less often by viruses ( influenza, parainfluenza, adenoviridae). Another frequent cause of pneumonia is untreated colds or flus, i.e. a seemingly benign infection of the upper respiratory tract. Remember to treat every infection of the respiratory tract, however mild, using multi-component medicines and home treatments. This can help to avoid complications related to pneumonia. Smoking cigarettes (both active and passive smoking) is another reason why people get pneumonia. Smoking impedes the functioning of our immune system and causes functional changes in the lungs.
